Perception / Comprehensibility Cheat Sheet

Limits on what characters can perceive, affect, and safely understand within the rules.

Perception Depth

4 governing rules.

Perception is a PC's interpretation of the world around them.

How many groupings of monsters a character and any number of subordinates they control can affect (up to 4 groupings per character or controlled subordinates).

Size categories of monsters: if a monster is at least 5 size categories larger or smaller, it cannot be perceived by or perceive the character (treat as familiar immunity).

There are very few things that can change perception depth (player picks being the primary example).

Comprehensibility Depth

3 governing rules.

Low-level characters cannot safely comprehend high-level magic (up to 10 SL per multiplier; exceeding this risks twilighting, death, or worse).

Low-level characters cannot safely comprehend very high DL monsters (up to 10 DL per multiplier; monsters above DL X are often strange regardless).

Many factors can affect comprehensibility depth, including items, spells, abilities, and player picks.
